Djemaa el Fna – Eetplein Rotterdam is not just a food festival, it’s different. It’s inspired by the famous Djemaa el Fna market square in Marrakesh, Morocco.
For four years now, it celebrates great success as one of the few multi cultural Rotterdam/the Netherlands has to offer. During the last edition,24.000 people has visited Museumpark for Djemaa el Fna – Eetplein Rotterdam.
Visitors from the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and even Norway, came together to enjoy the festival for three days. Different people with different cultural backgrounds experienced a Moroccan atmosphere under the Rotterdam starry sky and sample the many (culinary) cultures of Rotterdam. Museumpark was once again transformed into an outdoor restaurant presenting all food cultures that our beautiful Rotterdam has to offer: couscous, sfenj and gringo to tajine, bestilla, msemen and mint tea and from bagrir and barbecue to chwa. A great non-food products were also represented, like henna, argan products and several jewelry.
Beside all delicacies, lots of performances has been shown: from traditional Daka music to DJ tunes, from lectures, readings, Masterclasses to children activities.
Djemaa el Fna is a production of Stichting de Loodsen, where I fulfill the role of Head of Production regarding the last three editions, with a team of around 40 people. This means that I was responsible for all productional and practical preparation (like taking care of all permits, staff, suppliers, floor plan, facilities, security etc.) and proper execution on site.
